THE first image of the series below, is one of the scariest pictures I know. It was taken within milliseconds after the ignition of an atomic bomb. Check out how little the trees are. In the early fifties the Americans were developing these weapons in the Nevada desert and taking pictures was part of the testing process.


To make these images, they used the rapatronic camera, one of the first high speed camera’s. I wonder why the researchers at that time weren’t thinking when they saw these pictures ‘hmmmm, perhaps we shouldn’t mess with these kind of forces…’.
