Democracy Cramps My Style

AS a dictator you don’t have to worry about elections that can take that sweet power away from you. So instead of getting a picture taken while hugging a cute baby, you can be your own bad self.  Take for example Kim Jong–il (still holding the kite in North Korea) and Augusto Pinochet (leader of the military junta in Chili from 1973 until 1990). The two don’t need photo opportunities to flash Colgate smiles to please the public. Just a pair of shades and your loyal posse will do. The first photo is presumable taken by an anonymous North Korean. The Dutch photographer Chas Gerresten made the photo of Pinochet.
